Watch Out for Signs of Neglect at Nursing Homes

  • Frequent slips and falls

It's the responsibility of the staff at the nursing home to help the residents with movement, as needed.

If your loved one is being injured by constant falls, it could be a sign of neglect. Staff members coud cause the fall and claim that the resident fell on their own.

  • Unexplained fractures or bruises

Sometimes, injuries can be caused at the nursing home and vague explanations would be provided about their reasons. These wouldn't be backed up with any medical diagnosis as well.

This can be caused by the neglect of the patient's underlying conditions or could be the result of abuse too.

This can be caused by the neglect of the patient's underlying conditons or could be t he result of abuse as well.

  • Bedsores

Caregivers at the nursing home should be well-trained to turn and reposition people with limited mobility as a part of proper patient care.

If you've noticed that your loved one has bedsores or ulcers, it could indicate that something is wrong with the care given at the nursing home.

  • Malnourishment or dehydration

It's the responsibility of the nursing home to provide you or your loved one with food and water in a timely manner.

Reduction in the number of staff members can affect this which can lead to malnourishment and dehydration becoming a serious health hazard.

  • Silence and reluctance

Neglect and abuse at the nursing home can make your loved one reticent and emotionally withdrawn. You should take these signs seriously so that your loved one's well-being can be ensured as soon as possible.
